Unbelievably there is no plastic packaging law in New Zealand that forces plastic suppliers to have the triangular recycling symbols on their products.The suppliers of our old plastic Gecko Guard bottles showed no interest in adding a recycle symbol. In response we decided to make a change to a material that can be recycled locally. It is our small contribution to keeping as much non biodegradable material out of the landfills as possible.

The artwork on the Gecko Guard label features New Zealand's native green gecko naultinus elegans. It is a North Island species that can grow to 95mm in length. Active by day, it has slender toes well adapted for grasping twigs and climbing foliage. The green gecko cannot alter its skin colour. New Zealand's geckos give birth to live young while most of the geckos in the world lay eggs (the only other exception to this is a species in New Caledonia). Most reptiles are silent but the green gecko will croak or chatter at times. New Zealand geckos have the distinction of living the furthest from the equator.
