I took the Spoke around the South Island of NZ for a month and it handled the cold snaps wonderfully.
It's ridiculously lightweight and breathable which was important to me as a photographer. I wore it on long hill walks with a big camera backpack on and coupled with a merino under layer I was left with a dry back and was protected from the high winds once I got close to the summits of the hikes I did. - Best windproof jacket I've experienced for mountain biking.

I received my Spoke jacket today and immediately went for a ride. The weather was gusty easterlies, 13 deg (felt like 9-10 deg with the wind chill) and spitting with rain.
The jacket performed very well and I felt warm for the whole ride with just a t-shirt and light first layer under it.
Breathability was very good compared to all the other jackets I've tried and it handled the light rain without a worry.
Once again ESS have produced a great garment.
I have to say out of all my outdoor kit ESS stuff out performs the rest.
- Great jacket. Needs more pockets.
- Love the jacket but would also love extra zippered pockets to keep my hands warm and to hold extra things.

I was lucky enough to get my Spoke for my 30th birthday in 2008. 5 and a half years on it, the only clue that it is well worn is the fading lettering on the arms and chest.
My Spoke has literally done thousands of km's on the road bike, mountainbike and running on and off road. Not just around Southland but around the country.
Regardless of where I'm going or what I'm doing my trusty spoke is with me in my pack or on my back.
High intensity training still sees it get damp from sweating but in all honestly that is me and not the jacket otherwise it is fantastic. My usual solution is to take it off and carry it because the packability is brilliant, folding into its chest pocket.
Despite it's age I haven't even considered replacement (same can't be said of my newer lightweight vest from another active wear company), when it is time to update it will e a case of "please sir, can I have another!".
The only wee tweak I would make would be to include a bit more reflective piping to increase visibility.
Between this and my Adrenaline I have pretty much all conditions covered!
